Adrian D'Amico said skateboarding pros and beginners of all ages will be able to take part in the skate competition he wants to make an annual event.
Mr D'Amico said with skating now an Olympic sport there is likely to be even more interest around the Tokyo Olympics. Especially with Wollongong's Kieran Woolley making the Australian team. And he is confident many more future Australian Olympians will come from the region. And some of them could be competing on Saturday.
Among those is the new face of Foot Locker's dunk school Felicity Turner, of Figtree, who is number one in her age group in Australia. Also competing is industry professional and local Wollongong competitor Daniel Woolley.
Retired professional Sam Giles is a judge for the inaugural 3Sixty Skate Comp.
As an incentive for skaters of all ages and skills to enter Mr D'Amico has put up two $1000 prizes and organised trophies for all other age groups.
"We are so proud of the calibre of riders we have coming into 3Sixty and this is an opportunity for them to showcase their skill," he said.
"We haven't really had any major Wollongong sponsored skate comps and we want to change that. We're here to put Wollongong on the map. We already have one local, Kieran Woolley, at the Olympics this year, and we know we have more."
Mr Giles said he got involved as a judge because he wants to ensure skateboarding is seen as more than just a group of teenagers playing at a park.
"Every time these competitors are recognised through skate competitions it gives them more of an edge and increases their global opportunities," he said.
"It's so great to see a skating competition of this calibre coming out of Wollongong."
