Transport for NSW hosted a community walk event on a section of the Albion Park bypass, ahead of its opening in coming months.

The event included food and drinks available for purchase, kid's activities, music and entertainment as well as interactive road safety displays.

A petting zoo with furry friends like bunnies and an alpaca was a hit among the kids.

Dignitaries in attendance included Andrew Constance, Minister for Transport and Roads and Member for Bega, Minister Paul Toole, Minister for Regional Transport and Roads, Rob Sharp, Secretary of Transport for NSW and Matthew Saviana, Fulton Hogan Project Director.

Member for Kiama Gareth Ward also attended the event, in his second public appearance since his return to work after news emerged he was being investigated over sexual violence allegations dating back as far as 2013.

The then-disability services minister stepped down from the ministry five weeks ago, and later took time off from his job as local member.

This week he announced his return to work and said he is none the wise about the details of the claims against him.

He also attended the opening of the new Minnamurra Bike Skills Track on Friday.

Securing funding for the Albion Park Rail bypass and overseeing its construction has been a major achievement of Mr Ward's since he was elected to NSW Government in 2011.

The construction of the bypass has not all been smooth sailing.

The interchange at the southern end of the Albion Park Rail bypass recently had five sets of traffic lights installed, which did little to alleviate traffic pressure in the area.

Some residents said it's the worst they've seen in decades.

A spokesperson for Transport for NSW acknowledged the problem, and said technicians would adjust the timing of the traffic lights.
