"There are a number of road works planned across our city on the planned championship course route, including adjustments to speed humps, traffic islands, kerbs, roundabouts, road resurfacing and general maintenance," a Wollongong City Council spokeswoman said.
"We're planning to share a detailed update and map of upcoming works with our community soon. Residents can expect to receive notification in their letterbox in the coming weeks."
Some of the planned works were already listed in the council capital works program and have been brought forward, others will be completed with the help of state and federal funding.
"Some of the planned road works are funded for future upgrades through the NSW Government: Wollongong 2022 Legacy Partnership Program," the spokeswoman said.
"This means that for specific locations, we'll be seeking community ideas and feedback on long-term improvements to help people better move around our city.
"For Legacy projects, we'll be asking for community input after the UCI event."
During the races between September 18 and 25, road closures will be in place.
Most of those will be in the central Wollongong area, including Gwynneville, North Wollongong and the city CBD.
