Pregnant Kruger used donor egg from friend
Sonia Kruger has revealed that she used a donor egg from by a close friend to fall pregnant with her first child at nearly 50.
The Nine Network TV presenter announced her big news on Twitter over the weekend with a cute pic of her own feet in sexy Valentino shoes alongside a pair of baby socks.
‘‘Hey everyone. Here’s a fun fact...I’m having a baby!’’ she posted.
Kruger and her partner TV executive Craig McPherson have previously revealed their efforts to fall pregnant both naturally and through IVF.And speaking on Nine’s Mornings show on Monday, the Big Brother presenter explained to Richard Wilkins that a close friend had donated the successful egg.
‘‘I wanted to be really clear today on the show with our viewers and let everybody know that I did go through IVF and I did have an egg donor,’’ said Kruger, who turns 49 on Thursday.
‘‘When you get to my age, to use your own eggs to have a baby, you’re not really going to be successful - I mean the odds are sort of one in a million, and my doctors have been very clear with me because I’ve been through IVF before.
‘‘So I have a very good friend who basically gave me an egg and that’s how this pregnancy came about.’’
Kruger, who is due next February, said she is ‘‘thrilled to bits’’ and felt incredibly appreciative towards her friend for what she did.
‘‘I think it’s entirely possible to be as in love with a baby that doesn’t necessarily share your DNA, as it is when you adopt a child and you fall in love with that child,’’ she said.
But the first 16 weeks were still a ‘‘knife edge’’ of nerves as she fought off feelings of paranoia that came from her previous IVF miscarriages.
‘‘I saw a heartbeat, which I had never seen before, that was incredible,’’ she said.‘‘(Then) I became paranoid, convinced I would go for the next scan and there would be no heartbeat.
‘‘There’s still a long way to go but fingers crossed.’’
Kruger has also told The Australian Women’s Weekly magazine that the couple know the sex of their impending bundle of joy.

Eminem, Rihanna take ice bucket challenge
Eminem turned his homecoming show in Detroit, Michigan into a charity fundraiser by completing the ice bucket challenge onstage along with his tour companion Rihanna.
The pair’s joint tour stopped in the rapper’s hometown this weekend and during the second show there on Saturday night, the hip-hop star took the opportunity to raise funds for the ALS Association.
At the end of the concert at Comerica Park, Eminem sat in a chair while Rihanna soaked him with icy water, and then he nominated the pop star for the challenge.
Rihanna obliged and was drenched in front of the crowd as the band played Vanilla Ice’s hit track Ice Ice Baby.
Other stars to have added their names to the list of ice bucket challengers include actress Reese Witherspoon, who dedicated her soaking to a friend who was recently diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease and motor neurone disease, and new mother Olivia Wilde, who doused herself in her own breast milk.

Dunham helped Swift understand feminism
Singer Taylor Swift has credited actress Lena Dunham for helping her become a better feminist.
The I Knew You Were Trouble hitmaker explains when she was younger she felt the title had a negative connotation, but the Girls star helped her to realise that it just meant you supported equality among the sexes.
‘‘As a teenager, I didn’t understand that saying you’re a feminist is just saying that you hope women and men will have equal rights and equal opportunities,’’ Swift told The Guardian.
‘‘What it seemed to me, the way it was phrased in culture, society, was that you hate men. And now, I think a lot of girls have had a feminist awakening because they understand what the word means.’’
‘‘For so long it’s been made to seem like something where you’d picket against the opposite sex, whereas it’s not about that at all. Becoming friends with Lena - without her preaching to me, but just seeing why she believes what she believes, why she says what she says, why she stands for what she stands for - has made me realise that I’ve been taking a feminist stance without actually saying so.’’
