More than 40 stalls turned out for the event that aimed to unify local ladies and small businesses and also energise and inspire women of the region as part of International Women’s Day celebrations.
The Healthy Fox together with Shellharbour City Council put on the expo to recognise women’s contribution in the workplace, families and communities.
Organiser Aileen Gleeson said the event was an ideal day for small business owners who worked from home to come together in one place.
“It gives women with online businesses that chance to network and support each other,” she said.
“They get to talk and get that face-to-face contact you can’t get online but also realise that they’re not alone.
“They can connect on social media and maybe down the track we will create a forum where they can network. Today also gives us the chance to talk about that concept.”
Catherine Vlachos runs her business Intimacy Divine from home and online and she said the expo gave her the opportunity to dispel some myths about her profession.
“I do spiritual healing and tarot cards but my real passion is Tantra,” she said.
“I want to empower women and today I can connect with real women who have come from different places and tell them about what I do and how to find their own truth and be true to themselves.”
Shellharbour City Council held a variety of information stalls, a library on the lawn and road safety awareness activities focusing on drink-drive prevention.
Mayor Marianne Saliba spoke at the event and said women were “the backbone of society”.
“Because without us, no one would be here. So today is about realising to look after yourself and then you’ll be able to help others and good things will flow on from that.”
