Edmund Rice won the Opens competition, beating Broulee-based Carroll College 43-8 in the grand final at Blacktown International Sports Park.
Edmund Rice's under 15s team also made the
State Cup final, beaten
by the powerful Westfields Sports High School.
The ERC Opens team first won the Illawarra knockout round of the Swans Cup to advance to the Sydney Area finals, before taking on the Greater Western Sydney (GWS) AFL affiliate Southern region winner in the grand final.
In the Sydney Area semi-finals, Edmund Rice beat a tough St Edward's College, from Central Coast, 54-10, with the scoreline not reflecting the toughness of the match.
Edmund Rice then came from three goals down in the first half to overrun defending champions St Paul's High School from Port Macquarie in a four-point thriller in the Area final.
Having qualified to face the GWS winner, Edmund Rice produced a dominant display against Carroll College, winning convincingly by 35 points to clinch the Swans Cup.
Given the considerable depth of AFL in high schools, Edmund Rice played a magnificent style of football to be crowned top Opens school in the state, plus having their under 15s side make the final.
