Mrs Phillips used a post via her campaign Facebook page on Thursday night to thank her supporters for an “amazing journey” and vow to continue “holding the Member for Gilmore to account every single day”.
“We may not have won Gilmore at this election, but we came eerily close,” she said.
“We'll end this election on one of the smallest margins in Australia; a 5.33 per cent swing to Labor in Gilmore in the primary vote - something we can all rightly be proud of.”
The call came as Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis held a 1316-vote lead over Mrs Phillips on a two party preferred basis.
The incumbent indicated earlier on Thursday she would “wait and see” before claiming victory.
Mrs Phillips thanked “everyone that voted Labor, to protect Medicare, for the full Gonski needs based funding that our area desperately needs; for jobs, the real NBN, services and much more”.
“To the Member for Gilmore, I wish you the best of luck, for Gilmore is indeed a very special place that should never be taken for granted,” she said.
It won’t be the last time you see, or hear, from the Labor candidate.
“Many people have asked me what I'm going to do after the election. Well, I'm not going anywhere,” she said.
“I'll be holding the Member for Gilmore to account every single day. The battle for Labor to win Gilmore at the next federal election starts right now.”
