Salvos Stores Illawarra Region area manager Philip Wahba said this was a necessity because op-shops were no longer just for the underprivileged or those who are doing it tough.
‘There are so many other motivators why people shop at our stores,’’ Mr Wahba said.
“You get uni students who are doing fashion who want to reinvent or what we call up-cycle an item. You get the ones who are environmentally driven and realise by recycling and buying second-hand clothing, they are helping save the environment.
“And, you get those who are designer driven and shop in the designer section in our stores.’’
Salvos Stores is supporting National Op Shop Week (August 21-27) with the launch of their new ‘Fashion with a Conscience’ campaign.
National Op Shop Week seeks to raise awareness of the importance of supporting community op shops, while Fashion with a Conscience encourages customers to Reuse, Recycle & Reinvent fashion by shopping at their local Salvos Store.
Salvos Stores divert 15,000 tonnes of clothing and household items per year from landfill.
“Op shop week is about us presenting that and saying come into our stores and see what Salvos have to offer...and of course all funds raised go back into the Illawarra community,’’ Mr Wahba said.
Salvos will officially launch their Fashion with a Conscience campaign on day two of National Op Shop Week, with in-store events in various locations throughout NSW, QLD & ACT on Monday, August 22 from 9am.
Salvos store in Kenny Street, Wollongong will feature a Salvos Capsule Wardrobe display to inspire their savvy shoppers, with each wardrobe consisting of stylish outfits for all occasions for less than $250. Customers can then vote for their favourite capsule wardrobe via the Salvos Stores Facebook page to win a $500 gift card.
Salvos stores will also offer 50 per cent off all pre-loved items, making it the perfect time for everyone to shop Fashion with a Conscience and create a whole new wardrobe for less whilst helping the environment.
Faye De Lanty, eco stylist, fashion commentator and Salvos Stores ambassador, said the Fashion with a Conscience campaign is about being caring, mindful and thoughtful with your fashion dollar.
‘’Sourcing your wardrobe from a charity like Salvos Stores not only helps those less fortunate but our planet too…. it’s so important to reuse, reinvent and recycle our clothing as often as we can.’’
