Kiama MP Gareth Ward welcomed the appointment of his “personal friend” Gladys Berejiklian, but remained circumspect on media reports that he was “almost certain” to get a promotion under her leadership.

Faced with suggestions he would gain a position in a cabinet reshuffle, Mr Ward would only say his main focus was on representing his electorate.
“I’ve never been an ambitious person,” he said. “The only way I’m getting into the ministry is through the seminary.”
Mr Ward said Ms Berejiklian would “be an outstanding premier” and was “a strong woman from a diverse background with an enormous empathy but incredible strength”.
“I’ve been a long time supporter of hers and I can’t wait to see what she will do for the people of NSW,” he said.
