The Year of the Rooster officially begins on Saturday with celebrations at the temple each day until February 12.
Also known in China as the Spring Festival, it's marked by around one-sixth of the world's population and is celebrated as Tet in Vietnam, Seollal in Korea, Losar in Tibet and Tsagaan Sar in Mongolia.
Founder of Fo Guang Shan and Nan Tien Temple, Venerable Master Hsing Yun, said their motto for the coming year is "Rising Dawn of Success".
“The rooster crows the sound of success. May your year be filled with soaring aspirations and good reputation,” Master Yun said.
