Wollongong turned on perfect weather to welcome Norwegian Star just before 8am on Thursday.
The Norwegian Cruise Lines visit marks the arrival of the second international cruise ship company to make Port Kembla a destination for passengers from around the world.
With close to 2400 passengers Destination Wollongong general manager Mark Sleigh said it was another important day for the city and the Illawarra tourism industry.
Mr Sleigh said NCL was already impressed with the Wollongong welcome.
He received a message from the Norwegian Cruise Lines managing director on Wednesday night thanking him and the #cruisewollongong team “for your terrific support on the ground ahead of our maiden call. On behalf of NCLH please thank all your volunteers and organisers for the step over and above!".
Mr Sleigh and close to 100 volunteer ambassadors were waiting in and around the Wollongong Arts Precinct to welcome many of the 3200 passengers and crew as the first Premier Illawarra shuttle buses brought them into town.
The Illawarra Mercury will have updates during the day..
