Andrew Barber, station officer, Wollongong Fire Station, said firefighters attended the Cabbage Tree Lane property on Thursday afternoon and again later that night. Firefighters donned protective suits before handling the “suspicious” chemicals, he said .
“There were two main chemicals – about 15 litres of one and about five litres of another. We secured them in Hazmat bins,” he said.
“Potentially they could be used for illegal activities. It’s been referred to police for further investigation.”
The property was declared a crime scene.
Wollongong police will not elaborate on the discovery, citing the ongoing nature of their investigation.
