Heavy rain and thunderstorms may lead to flash flooding on Friday and Saturday night, the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.
Locations which may be affected include Wollongong, Nowra, Bowral, Batemans Bay, Eden, Bega, Moruya Heads, as well as Katoomba, Gosford, Sydney, Penrith and Parramatta.
A low off the central coast of NSW is expected to move south to southeast on Friday night.
“Twenty-hour totals in excess of 100mm are possible,” the BoM said.
“A flood watch is current for the St Georges Basin and the Moruya and Bega river valleys.”
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
- Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
- If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue.
- For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500.
- The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 11pm Friday.

10.30am: Kiama MP Gareth Ward has warned people travelling on the upgraded sections of the Princes Highway at Berry to be careful due to drainage issues.
“Because the Princes Highway at Berry is not finished yet, motorists may experience ponding on the road,” Mr Ward said.

“We’re encouraging people who are driving through the construction areas to take extra care.
“The temporary drainage system that’s in place was not built to withstand this amount of water.
“The product isn’t finished yet and for that reason there may be additional amounts of water on the road.”

- ALBION PARK RAIL: The Illawarra Highway near Croome Lane is closed in both directions. Diversions through Tongarra Road are adding about 10 to 15 minutes to travel time.
- SOUTH NOWRA: Quinns Lane is closed
- WANDANDIAN: Water across the road on the Princes Highway near Wandean Road is affecting northbound traffic.
- BUDGONG - Bugong Road (at Budgong Creek Causeway) is closed
- CAMBEWARRA: Hockeys Lane (at the Causeway) is closed
- BOMADERRY: Meroo Road (near the Princes Highwy) was closed overnight. Heavy rainfall is expected to see it close again today.
There is water over the road at Edwards Avenue, Bolong.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the Illawarra and South Coast districts, with 24-hour rainfall totals potentially exceeding 100 millimetres in some areas.
