Reigning world champion Tyler Wright made light work of her round four heat while fellow South Coast gun Sally Fitzgibbons also progressed in the Australian Open of Surfing on Friday at Manly Beach.

Wright was in control from the get-go against fellow Australian Philippa Anderson and South Africa’s Bianca Buitendag, posting waves scores of 9.10 and 8.33 to finish with a combined score of 17.43.
Anderson (13.93) just pipped Buitendag (13.30).
Fitzgibbons had a tougher time getting through her heat, but progressed all the same.
The Gerroa talent had a two-wave score of 14.23 to best Hawaii’s Malia Manuel (13.87) and NZ’s Ella Williams (9.20).
Wright will meet Aussie Dimity Stoyle in round five while Fitzgibbons faces Claire Bevilacqua.
Wright’s younger brother Mikey remains in the men’s draw where he will meet Portugal’s Frederico Morais and Brazilian Alex Ribeiro.
