Emergency services were called at 11:45am with reports a group of three were in trouble near the gravel loader, just off Bass Point Tourist Road.
A police spokeswoman said the divers weren’t from the area and one with a pre-existing injury was having issues in the water.
Port Kembla Marine Rescue eventually brought the trio to shore.
One of the divers, who didn’t want to give his name, told the Illawarra Mercury it was an “embarrassing” incident because they didn’t read the weather conditions properly.
