The first grade side, under the guidance of new captain/coach Dwayne Connors, enjoyed a victorious start to the year, defeating Warilla-Lake South 16-12 at the Bomaderry Sporting Complex.
“Honestly, I thought all the boys dug deep and we played well as a group,” Connors said. “Both teams were fatigued in the first 15 minutes, which is expected this early on in the season but we matched their ability.
“I also think our guys in the middle played extremely well, both in defence and attack.”
Connors, who has taken over the reigns from Ben Wellington, was particularity impressed by recruit Santino Battagliolo.
“I was most pleased with the pressure put on the Gorillas by our defence and a lot of that had to do with new Jets player Santino Battagliolo,” he said. “Just his presence made the other boys comfortable in the middle.”
