Police were called to Churchill Avenue about 9.15pm to reports of people attempting to enter a property through the roof.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Local Area Command attended and allegedly located a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old male in the roof cavity.
Police allege the two males then forced their way onto the rooftop and started to hurl tiles at the attending officers.
The street was shut down as the young males kept police – including general duties, criminal investigation, proactive crime team, rescue unit, dog unit and highway patrol - at bay well into the morning.
Following a lengthy operation, police negotiators were able to affect the arrest of the teenagers after they climbed down from the roof about 4am.
The home involved in the siege is now missing a large portion of the roof, while surrounding properties were damaged by the tiles thrown during the stand-off.
The teenagers were taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station and charged with use weapon to avoid apprehension, destroy property, assault police (x 4) and several outstanding warrants.
The 16-year-old male was refused bail to appear at a Children’s Bail Court on Saturday.
The 18-year-old man was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Bail Court on Saturday.
