It’s koala breeding season and the amorous marsupials are wandering further afield prompting warnings by wildlife groups.

Wildlife Sydney Koala coordinator Renee Faron said the breeding season from August to February meant people were much likely to come across the animals.
In fact, one cute critter was found dazed at Lucas Heights recently.
‘’She was found on Heathcote Road just past the New Illawarra Road intersection,’’ she said.
‘’She was disoriented zigzagging back and forth across the road and was very quiet when picked up by a member of the public.
‘’She has been assessed by the specialist vets at the avian and exotics hospital at Cobbitty and no obvious injuries have been found.’’
She said blood tests have been done to rule out other issues.
The koala, who has been named Heather, is still in care but will hopefully be released early next week.
Sydney Wildlife has released four tips on how you can help.
That includes:
- Drivers be aware and slow down at night;
- Secure your dog inside at night and investigate noises;
- Provide ways for a koala to get out of a swimming pool;
- Don’t cut Eucalypt trees.
The reminder comes on the first day of September which marks the start of Save the Koala Month.
