Kensington Palace announced the news on Twitter and by press release on Monday morning, London time.
The Duchess had been due to visit a children's centre on Monday but cancelled the appointment due to the side-effects of her pregnancy.
As with her two previous pregnancies, Kate is suffering from Hyperemesis Gravidarum - very acute morning sickness, which may require supplementary hydration, medication and nutrients.
She is being cared for at Kensington Palace, the family's London home.
The Queen and members of both families are delighted with the news, the press release said.
