Murphy and Cavanough only advanced to the final after having a superior shot differential against Oak Flats opponents Gerry Mann and Franko Martino and Windang’s Paul Nesbitt and Daryl Davidson.
Starting the day with a dominant 14-5 win over Mann and Martino, Murphy and Cavnough then dropped their second game, going down 10-8 to Nesbitt and Davidson.
But their plus-seven shot count, meant they edged their way into the Zone 16 final. They played Berry’s David Lambert and Lindsay McNamara, who had recorded a 17-6 victory over Oak Flats pair Glen Cowling and John O’Loughlin and a thrilling 9-8 success over Windang’s Daniel Davies and Ross Vincent. The duo then won the decider 11-9 to qualify for the state finals in October. Meanwhile, the Zone 16 Champion of Club Champions draw has been released, to be played next weekend, before the final on September 30.

Meanwhile, the Zone 16 representative squad travels to Port Macqurie to play in the NSW inter-zone four finals.
