Given a great ride by veteran jockey Jon Grisedale, Coolotta coasted to an impressive 1-½ length victory in the Ozzie and Dot Rummery Open Showcase Handicap.
Barbara Joseph and Paul Smith trained Darts Away ran on well for second, but it was no match for Murray’s five-year-old over the Moruya 1425m. Coolotta has built up a strong record over the distance, with two wins and two placings over the seven furlongs.
“This is when he is at his peak over the 1300m and 1400m races,” Murray told Thoroughbred Central.
“Credit to Michelle and Kristen. They are the only two girls who I have riding for me and they do a great job and have with him.”
Coolotta was aided by a patient ride by Grisedale, who waited to produce the gelding as race favourite Budderoo Knight pulled his way to the outside.
