The annual event started by the Novotel’s Emily Squires and Chantelle Drolc, raised almost $20,000 for the Kokoda Youth Foundation, Lifeline, the AIME Mentoring Program and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research, as part of the AccorHotels Community Fund.
Eighteen teams took part in the September 29 race around the streets of Wollongong.
For the record Wally and Wendy’s Entourage were crowned winners after completing the fun course in two hours and 20 minutes.
Event spokeswoman Jeanne Parker said this year’s new and improved circuit was enjoyed by all teams.
‘’We had a surf challenge at the beach as well as a hospitality challenge which was a lot of fun,’’ she said.
‘’The Harry’s Burger challenge was also a lot of fun. I believe someone ate their monster burger and loaded fries in about three minutes.’’
The TAFE NSW tourism and events management head teacher added students enjoyed the hands-on experience of planning and participating in Amazing Race Wollongong.
‘’We will definitely be back next year,’’ Mrs Parker said.
‘’It was great to see the community and businesses get together to support this fantastic event.’’
