From October 10 until December, the speed limit between Mullers Lane and Cambewarra Road will drop to 80km/h.
The drop is to allow for pre-construction work on the Berry to Bomaderry highway upgrade.
This includes the relocation of telecommunications infrastructure and water mains as well as the felling of a number of trees.
Kiama MP Gareth Ward said the government will look to returning to the 100km/h limit in time for the Christmas holidays.
“Obviously we will do our best to return speed limits to normal when work isn’t going on, which includes holiday time,” Mr Ward said.
“That is always our endeavour with all of our roadworks, to try and inconvenience motorists as little as possible.
“But we need to put the safety of workers first and motorists first.”
