The ghd Australia and UK hosted event involved over 70 looks being created on 10 models over 13 hours. And Jayme-Lee Franco-Morthen, of Charli & Kate, described it as the opportunity of a lifetime.
She was part of an Australia and New Zealand team led by ghd Australia creative director Richard Kavanagh. “When I got offered the opportunity to be part of the ghd Infinite Styling event I didn’t quite know what to expect. But it blew my mind. It was intense and a lot of hard work. I learnt a lot I can bring back here.”
Ms Franco-Morthen was working near some of the big names and best stylists from across Australia. She said it was all great learning exercise. “To have my name even advertised for ghd is incredible. Their products are worldwide. It was amazing. We were on the floor styling for 13 hours. I did seven completely different transformations for day wear and night wear. It was very select. A lot of the people had already done shows like this before so to see their work was incredible.”
Ms Franco-Morthen recently returned to the Illawarra and has become head stylist at the new salon in Wollongong Central after working on the Gold Coast for two years. She initially worked in Jervis Bay for six years. She was drawn to Charli & Kate because of the new concept and range of hair products. “This has just opened up every door possible for my career. This is more of a palace compared to any other salon. There’s nothing like this on the Gold Coast. Not compared to the range we have. I have incredible products to work with here. It is amazing. I love it.”
Charli & Kate owner Melissa Gorgievski said the team was really proud of Ms Franco-Morthen. And the fact an independent family owned salon in Wollongong was chosen to participate in such elite level global training was a wonderful surprise.
“ghd is the biggest distributor in Australia,” she said.
