Aaron Bennett, 31, was last in contact with his family on Tuesday.
He was found on Thursday night in Wollongong.
Police and SES crews began a search of the area around the Mount Keira lookout on Wednesday afternoon.
A helicopter crew was called in to scan the escarpment from above during the multi-agency operation.
As part of the operation, a Sydney-based Westpac Life Saver helicopter spent at least an hour conducting a number of sweeps of the area around the lookout’s viewing platform.
SES units from Wollongong, Coniston, Shellharbour and Kiama were involved in the search on Wednesday.
They were called in to help members of the NSW Police Rescue squad.
