The Physical Performance Program will consist of three different testing days for 2018 Scholarship Holders; one in December prior to the Christmas break, one in April, and one in July, giving the athletes a complete picture of their development throughout the scholarship year.
The testing days conducted by the Academy’s Physical Performance Partner, BaiMed, allows the coaching staff to monitor and adapt training programs through the different stages of the Scholarship period to ensure that the athletes are getting the best possible training.
The results also allow the coaches to track the athletes’ development and gain critical data to create individualised training programs. IAS athletes receive a holistic scholarship that focuses on the four pillars of the Academy; sport specific skills development, athletic movement development, elite sports education curriculum as well as a community outreach program.
Saturday will also see the Academy once again partner with our community partner, The Salvation Army, with athletes supporting their Christmas Appeal – 2017 Food Drive. The Academy will support this fantastic initiative by donating food items to be distributed to one the many families within our region who struggle to put food on the table on a daily basis.
As the sun sets on this the 32nd year of the Illawarra Academy of Sport, we reflect on the achievements of the Academy and our athletes over the past 12 months with admiration, pride and a sense of accomplishment.
The IAS is extremely proud of what we have achieved in 2017 and is excited about the challenges and opportunities that await us in 2018.
Since its inception, the Illawarra Academy of Sport has supported more than 5000 regional athletes.
On behalf of the Board, Staff, Coaches and Athletes we would like to wish you and your family all the joy, hope and happiness this Christmas and for a safe and prosperous 2018.
