Residents in Wollongong’s northern suburbs have been told to lock their cars and not leave valuables in view of would-be thieves, following a jump in the number of thefts from vehicles in recent days.

Police say many of the cars targeted during the Christmas crime spree were unlocked and expensive items – including cameras, handbags, wallets and mobile phones – were visible inside.
“Lock your vehicle, particularly if it is parked on the roadway or in your driveway overnight and remove any property from your vehicle,” a post on the Wollongong police Facebook page said.
