Police raided the man’s house at Heckenberg on Thursday and he was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged. He will appear in Campbelltown Local Court on Wednesday afternoon.
The body of Scott Hammond, 48, was discovered about 5.30pm on July 1, 2013 after emergency services were called to his house on Ibbotson Street.
The alarm was raised after an acquaintance of Mr Hammond’s became concerned for his welfare and contacted police.
Strike Force Hewitt, which included detectives from Camden Police Area Command, was formed to investigate Mr Hammond’s death.
Post mortem examination results confirmed Scott died as a result of blunt-force trauma to the head.
Camden Police Area Commander Detective Superintendent Ward Hanson said the arrest was a tribute to the hard work and tenacity of the investigative team.
“Many of the investigative team on the strike force have been on this case since day one,” Detective Superintendent Hanson said.
“Today’s result came about through persistence, old fashioned policing and tugging on coats.
“At the time of Scott’s death his mother Josie said his family hoped there will eventually be a close to an incredibly sad chapter in their family history.
“Unfortunately, Josie passed before this day could arrive.”
