A member of Helensburgh Little Athletics Club and Athletics Wollongong, the 14-year-old will have the opportunity to train alongside 80 of the best junior athletes from across the country.

Jackson will also attend seminars where she will learn the importance of nutrition and post-training recovery, while also gaining technical assistance from experienced coaches. 

A number of senior elite athletes will attend the camp, with Commonwealth Games competitors set to share their experiences with the attendees.

The selection comes after a successful summer of athletics that included a bronze medal in the under 14 girls 80 metre hurdles final at the Little Athletics State Championships and a fifth-place finish in the 200m hurdles. 

An active child, Jackson was introduced to the sport by her parents and she very quickly fell in love with the clear correlation between hard work and results. She views this camp as an opportunity to continue her development as an athlete and lay the platform for another successful summer in 2018/19.

“‘My passion for athletics came from my parents,” Jackson said.  “They first introduced me to athletics when I was around five years old, I was really active and running was my favourite sport.” 

Thanks to her commitment and dedication to the sport, Jackson has delivered progressive improvement throughout the past few years, finishing eighth at state as a 12 year old, then sixth last year and now third this past season.

“Still to this day athletics is something I enjoy most, I love the atmosphere of competitions and seeing if all my hard work in training has paid off.

“I love improving myself to be a better athlete each year so I can become one step closer to fulfilling my dream of competing at the Olympics.”

Jackson follows in the footsteps of Wollongong City Little Athletes Jarrod Twigg and Joshua Head who attended the camp in 2012.
