Wollongong City gymnasts excel on national stage

The trio of Hannah Sheridan, Charlotte Thompson and Brittney Wilson continue to progress from strength to strength in the advanced competition divisions, excelling at state and national championships. 

After impressive performances at the NSW Championships, the three girls were selected to represent NSW in the teams events at the Australian Championships in Melbourne.

Competing in the level eight division, Wilson played an integral role in NSW silver medal-winning performance. The team edged Victoria for second by just 0.2 of a point, with Queensland finishing in first place. 

Wilson performed in the vault and floor events of the competition, contributing outstanding scores including a vital floor routine that helped deliver the silver above Victoria. 

Sheridan featured in the NSW team that finished fifth in the level nine division before returning for the finals of the 15 and under floor routine. 

The final was a hotly-contested affair, with just over half a point separating third and seventh position, with Sheridan ultimately finishing in seventh. 

Also competing in the level nine division, Thompson delivered two outstanding routines to claim fifth position in the vault final. 

The performances were impressive enough to earn Thompson selection in the Australian Team Future squad for emerging talented gymnasts. 

Inclusion in the high performance development program provides Thompson with access to some of Australia’s top coaches and will see the gymnast attend a number of camps with fellow talented juniors. 

The three girls are leaders within the Wollongong City Gymnastics Club, with Sheridan named Most Outstanding Higher Levels Gymnast in 2017 and continuing her improvement in 2018. 

The girls are now deep in preparations to lead their club at the State Club Championships later this year.
