Wollongong’s touch rugby league and oztag associations have hailed Illawarra Sports High’s new Touch and Tag program as a pivotal step in opening up opportunities for junior footballers in the region.

Oztag coach, and former Illawarra Steeler, Josh White said the program is perfect for those wanting to be involved in rugby league but not quite ready for the full contact aspect of the sport.
“There’s a lot of younger kids that haven’t developed as yet,” White said. “It gives them an opportunity to play a game they love and not get injured and get their confidence up so they’re ready to play rugby league when they do develop if they do want to do that.
“It’s a great game, it’s for all ages, all sizes and everyone can enjoy.”
The program will be open to juniors in years six to ten, with trials to be held at Illawarra Sports High on Thursday August 23. Those interested must register for the trials at the school’s website.
