University have pulled off an upset in Sunday’s under 17 first XV major semi-final to book a place in next weekend’s Illawarra Junior Rugby grand final.

The Bulls defeated minor premiers Kiama 20-7 to earn the direct route into the grand final in the final match of a busy day of football at Shoalhaven Rugby Park.

Kiama will be forced to travel up to Ocean Park to face Shamrocks in this Sunday’s preliminary final after Shamrocks edged Shoalhaven 17-14 in the elimination minor semi-final.

The defeat came on a full day of rugby for the Kiama juniors, with the club featuring in all six finals series, with mixed results across the grades.

The Kiama second XV side will also make the trip to Woonona on Sunday, after the under 15s prevailed 28-0 over Avondale in their minor semi-final. There, they will take on Camden after the Rams 29-22 loss to Campbelltown in the major semi-final.

The 13s preliminary final will see Kiama take on a merged Shamrocks/Tech Tahs side. While the higher ranked team, Kiama will need to bounce back from Sunday’s 40-0 defeat to minor premiers Camden if they are to progress to the grand final.

Shamrocks/Tech will be full of confidence after a 29-21 victory over a combined Bowral/Campbelltown side.

Camden won through to the under 12s preliminary final after a 27-5 victory over the Tech Tahs on Sunday. Kiama missed out on direct entry to the grand final after falling 29-5 to Campbelltown.

The Kiama under 11s season is over after they were upset 33-14 by the Tahs in a minor semi-final. Tech will now face Camden at Ocean Park after the Rams lost to an impressive Campbelltown side 41-0.

The Harlequins are now just one win away from an undefeated season.

The fortunes were reversed for Kiama’s under 10s side, with the team triumphing 31-5 over Campbelltown to earn a spot in the grand final.

The Harlequins will take on Bowral on Sunday after the Blacks’ dominant 40-nil defeat of Vikings.
