The attitude that had been missing at times in recent weeks had returned, and it showed on Sunday afternoon in the side’s 48-18 demolition job of the  Broncos. 

It’s a mindset that has been on display again this week as they prepare for yet another challenge, a South Sydney forward pack led by Sam Burgess. 

“It was there right from the start of the week, leading into the game,” Frizell said. “The intensity was brought to another level and I think that showed on the weekend.

“Leading into this match, everything will be pretty much similar and hopefully we can put in a similar performance against Souths.”

While the two teams split their matches this year, it was the Rabbitohs round 10 victory in May that confirmed their status as a premiership contender and exposed potential St George Illawarra weaknesses. 

In winning 24-10, South Sydney ran rampant through the middle of the field, with Burgess and Angus Crichton dominating and Damien Cook making metres at will from dummy half as he outshone Cam McInnes in a performance that secured him the Blues number nine jersey. 

The Dragons haven’t forgotten that game, Frizell said, and the team is fully aware of the importance of shutting down the South Sydney forwards and avoiding a repeat performance on Saturday.  

“That’s the only way we can stop them. If we can limit their go forward through the middle with their big boys, it stops guys like Cody Walker and Damien Cook tearing shreds off the edges and through the middle. That’s probably our focus, like every week, to go up against their forwards and do a good job of it.”

“Souths have probably been the form pack of the year and they’re playing really good footy, hopefully we can make the most of our opportunities and get on top.”

While eager to prevent the South Sydney forwards running rampant, Frizell said the Dragons haven’t spent too much time focusing on their opposition. 

Instead, the Dragons are focused on repeating last week’s dominant forwards performance, knowing they will be very hard to stop if they are able to replicate that effort. 

“We’re pretty much worrying about ourselves this week, as we did last week and in previous weeks. We haven’t changed too much in our style of footy, we just had more intent with the things that we did.

“If we give ourselves an opportunity to play and give ourselves an equal amount of possessions, I’m sure we can hopefully do a job on Souths.”
