As the dust settles on another memorable win in the $13 million feature over the weekend, plans are already being made to have the son of Snitzel defend his title next year.
Fairfax Media confirmed on Monday that Chinese billionaire Yuesheng Zhang, owner of Yulong Investments, met with Triple Crown Investments to discuss the possibility of a new deal for the 2019 event.
Redzel ran in the Yulong slot when defending his crown on Saturday at Randwick.
Piras was adamant the Peter and Paul Snowden trained gelding was capable of completing the treble in 12 months time.
"I think he will there,” Piras told The Punt.
"He is only young and if you think Chautauqua only won his third TJ Smith as a seven-year-old so it can be done.
"He is only lightly-raced and the Snowdens are master trainers so I am sure they would love to have three."
Fellow co-owner Patricia Di Marco admitted the thought of completing the treble had already crossed her mind as well.
“I have thought about it and thought about his age, because he will be seven but he is such a lightly-raced horse so there is every possibility he will be,” she said.
“A slot owners has to want him in their slot of course, but I couldn’t imagine then not wanting him if he was going well.”
Both Piras, of Wollongong, and Di Marco, of Figtree, were on track to see Redzel complete his Everest double on Saturday, alongside fellow co-owner, Balgownie’s Tony Kocovski.
Piras had predicted the superstar sprinter would go back-to-back in the 1200m feature in the immediate aftermath of his 2017 victory.
“I said he would do it again straight after the race last time. I said he would be just like Archer did in the Melbourne Cup,” Piras said.
"It was an unbelievable, especially to be able to be there with my parents. It was an unbelievable day.
"It was hard to even believe [Redzel] wasn't even blowing after the race.”
Sportsbet have already listed Redzel as the $6 favourite to win next year’s The Everest in early markets, with runner-up Trapeze Artist ($8) also fancied.
Meanwhile, all 12 slotholders have agreed to a $600,000-a-year buy-in for the fourth year of the concept in 2020.
Redzel will now head to Melbourne in a bid to defend his Group 1 Darley Classic (1200m) title at Flemington later in the spring.
