Carl Lawrence admitted accosting Kolby Langlo outside his Kemblawarra home on August 24 last year after a dispute involving Langlo’s ex-girlfriend.
Court documents said Langlo had contacted Lawrence’s friend, Dale McWaters, earlier that morning looking to buy drugs.
McWaters and Lawrence were seen together at the same house before both men got in different cars and drove to Langlo’s house.
McWaters arrived first and Langlo got into the back of his car looking to purchase the illegal goods, however panicked when he saw Lawrence’s vehicle pull up.
Once outside the vehicle, Lawrence grabbed Langlo and repeatedly punched him in the face. Langlo eventually broke free and Lawrence and McWaters fled the scene.
Judge Warwick Hunt accepted that Lawrence had no matters of violence on his record but said his struggles with the drug ice meant his prospects of rehabilitation were guarded.
With time served, Lawrence’s minimum sentence will expire in June 2019.
