At 3.40pm, Albion Park weather station recorded 37.5 degrees, Bellambi 34.5 degrees, Port Kembla Harbour 33.5 degrees and Kiama 37.4 degrees.
Temperatures peaked at Kiama and Albion Park with 38.1 degrees and 38.2 degrees respectively.
Bellambi's peak was 36.3 degrees at 2.22pm, while Port Kembla Harbour recorded 35.4 degrees at 2.44pm.
To help the city cool off, Wollongong City Council has extended Lifeguard hours on its busiest beaches.
North Wollongong Beach and Wollongong City Beach will stay open until 7pm Friday.
Stanwell Park, Thirroul, Bulli and Port Kembla beaches will be patrolled until 6pm.
The mercury is forecast to drop to the mid-20s overnight, before climbing to 27 degrees Saturday morning.
Sunday should see a reprieve with the top temperature set to hit 22.
