A capacity field of 42 teams – the biggest in the tournament’s history – have nominated for the two-day event with a total prize pool of $10,000.
Former international star Sam Laguzza will be among the big-name visitors to compete against a strong local field which includes Warilla’s Geoff McGillivray and Wiseman Park’s Robbie Warren.
‘’It’s the first time we will have the full capacity of 42 teams and it’ll be a very competitive event,’’ Warilla bowls co-ordinator Jeremy Henry said.
‘’Wayne Crane was a champion bowler at Warilla and a really popular person throughout the Illawarra so it’s great to have an event named after him.’’
The tournament format is three games of 3 Bowl Pairs on both Saturday and Sunday with the winning duo to take home $4000.
Meanwhile, Fairy Meadow are looking for teams after launching a Friday Twilight Open Social Pairs tournament to run right through to next March.
The event is from 5.30pm each Friday and should be popular in the long summer evenings.
The format is 18 ends of Open Pairs, with mufti dress.
There are prizes on the night, plus a jackpot operating.
