Aura apartments, located at 22-26 Flinders Street, Wollongong are now nearing completion.
In 2017, the long-awaited transformation of Wollongong’s northern outskirts began, as construction started on 50 new apartments along Flinders Street.
Demolition of three single-storey buildings – the former Skipp Surf premises, a beautician and Kings Chinese restaurant – began last May, to make way for a nine storey mixed-use complex.
The building will have 50 apartments, and two commercial premises fill out the ground floor.
There will be six one-bedroom apartments, 37 two-bedroom apartments and seven three-bedroom apartments, and three levels of parking.
The apartments are being built by developers Sam Hanna & Co.
Prices for one-bedroom apartments start from $490,000, two bedrooms from $630,000, three bedrooms from $875,000 and penthouses from $950,000.
The selling agents are Colliers Wollongong.
Managing director Simon Kersten said the building is almost complete, with final painting and carpets left to be done, and should have an occupation certificate by Christmas if all goes well.
“We have a whole floor on level one that is finished and one apartment that is fully furnished,” he said.
Features of the Aura apartments include high-level finishes, designer kitchens and quality appliances, floor-to-ceiling windows, rooftop and podium level community garden and ducted air-conditioning.
There will be a sales event/inspection for interested parties this Saturday, December 1 from 9am to 12pm on-site.
Mr Kersten said 45 of the 50 apartments would be available from this weekend, as the developer had sold five during the construction process.
“What surprises people the most about Aura is when you step inside the units, they’re quite peaceful, and the views are just amazing, very panoramic,” he said.
“You think that you’re in the middle of Wollongong on a busy road, but it’s like you’re transported somewhere else.
“The views, scenery and outlook are great… It’s a peaceful, tranquil view.
“The apartments are very generous in size, and really among the highest quality of anything I’ve seen built in Wollongong.”
Mr Kersten said they would likely appeal to owner/occupiers and offered a “really good lifestyle aspect”.
He said buyers could potentially move in as early as January.
In late 2016, well-regarded surfboard shaper John Skipp retired and shut up shop on Flinders Street.
The business had stood its ground on Wollongong’s surf strip since 1970.
