The late night reveller was unable to tell police whether if it was a man or woman who may have struck her.
But police believe they have identified her “attacker”.
The 27-year-old was admitted to Wollongong Hospital on Tuesday morning after discovering she had been wounded after attending two parties in Warrawong.
Around 2:30am, police say the victim was with a group of people on Kully Way when she became involved in an argument on the street.
The argument turned physical which is where the woman later believed the stabbing may have occurred.
She left the scene and got a taxi home where she noticed the injury and was taken to Wollongong Hospital in a stable condition.
While investigating, detectives noted a fence outside a house across the road from one of the parties the woman had attended.
Police said it appeared as though someone had caught their leg on the fence while climbing over.
As of late Tuesday afternoon the woman was still in hospital so police had yet to put this theory to her.
It comes after a 45-year-old man was also admitted to Wollongong Hospital with stab wounds from a separate incident in Berkeley on New Year’s Eve.
