The popularity of girls Australian football continues to rise in the Illawarra, with more than 300 girls turning out for last week's South Coast AFL Schools Cup gala day.

Played across two days, girls in the under 14, under 16 and opens age groups battled it out for south coast supremacy, with Holy Spirit College reigning supreme in all three divisions.
Local AFLW representatives Maddie Collier and Taylah Davies attended the event, sharing tips with the girls.
"We had a big increase on last year," AFL South Coast's Nicci Kennedy said. "It's a lot more socially acceptable for girls to play AFL, which is largely due to the AFLW.
"All the girls that got to meet Maddie and Taylah were stoked. Maddie and Taylah were so good, they got around all the young girls, had a chat, had a kick."
