Wollongong Police District Acting Inspector Dave Parker reminded people to be on their best behaviour as the night progressed.
He said police would be "out and about" in the community as the night wore on and would continue to have a strong presence on the roads.
Lake Illawarra Police District's Acting Inspector Peter Northey said police officers had enjoyed attending Anzac Day services in the morning.
"Officers were asked to lay wreaths to commemorate the fallen," he said.
"We were pleased with the response from the community at the services. There were large crowds at each location."
