During eight years in the industry funeral director, arranger, conductor Carly Nauruschat, of Hansen and Cole, has seen such services in Sydney.
But now she is delighted to be involved in one in the Wollongong area.
She said the ceremony will help local families who have lost a mother or grandmother honour and connect with their loved ones the day before Mother's Day.
The memorial service in the chapel at Lakeside Memorial Park off Kanahooka Rd near Dapto with start at 10am.
The ceremony will be led by celebrant Lorraine Lehman-Jones.
As part of the special mothers day event each family will be gifted a floral tribute. The commemorative flowers are designed to help celebrate the lives of mothers in all forms.
Hansen & Cole Funerals manager Sue Wright has been working on planning the special Mother's Day Memorial Service with Lakeside Memorial Park's Paul Michlmayr and his team after the two discussed the idea.
Ms Wright said the ceremony will also allow families to share their cherished memories with other people in similar circumstances.
Ms Nauruschat said after the ceremony those present would be able to spend their time walking the grounds at Lakeside Memorial Park.
"The rose we have organised for the families is something they can hold on to," she said.
"Or if they have loved ones here in the grounds they can go and place it there".
Ms Nauruschat said being the first Mother's Day Memorial Service at Lakeside Memorial Park they are not sure how many people to expect.
"You never know what to expect when organising a funeral service and with this it is the same thing," she said.
But if it proves popular with families and friends of loved ones lost it is likely to be held again in future years.
Ms Nauruschat has seen similar memorial services in the Illawarra around Christmas. But this is the first one she is aware of being held on or near Mother's Day.
