Probationary constables Brent Lipscombe and Jeselle Wicks familiarised themselves with the city's Crown Street Mall on Friday morning, just days after graduating from the NSW Police Force Academy in Goulburn.
The recruits will now each be paired with a leading senior constable and complete on-the-job training as general duties officers.
Constable Wicks, 41, said she'd been interested in policing for "a long time".
Her best friend's a police officer and her dad's a retired cop, but having young daughters meant she couldn't be away from home to train at the academy.
"They're now 17 and 19, and it got to the point where I was like 'I'd better do it now otherwise it won't happen," she said.
Constable Wicks has lived in the area for about 12 years. "I'm extremely happy to be close to home," she said.
Constable Lipscombe, who's also aged 41, has a background in education.
He's eager to help the community and was stoked to be posted in Wollongong.
"There hasn't been too many probies [probationary constables] come through Wollongong in the last few years, so I'm very fortunate to land in Wollongong. I'm pretty excited," he said.
The duo were among the 261 new recruits sworn-in as part of 'Class 337' on May 3.
They are two of only nine new recruits aged over 40.
