Jarrod Milgate, 20, was handed a three-and-a-half year prison sentence in Wollongong District Court last week but is only required to serve 20 months of the term behind bars before he is automatically granted parole.
Taking into account the time he has already served in custody following his arrest in April 2018, Milgate is set to walk out of prison on December 22.
In setting the sentence, Judge Chris O'Brien found Milgate's highly dysfunctional upbringing including drug addiction from the age of 10 had compromised his ability to make sound judgments in life.
He also said it reduced Milgate's moral culpability and made him a special case in the eyes of the law.
"He's an adult as far as the law is concerned but he barely fell into that category when he committed these offences," Judge O'Brien said.
"There's substantial public interest in the rehabilitation of young offenders."
Court documents said Milgate asked both girls to send him nude pictures and in one case, hijacked the girl's Snapchat account and password until she agreed to send him images of herself performing sex acts with vegetables.
Meanwhile, police reviewed Milgate's mobile phone usage upon his arrest in April 2018, discovering that he had been an active member of the instant messaging app 'Kik' in the weeks before his arrest, using the site to organise the sale of child pornography to other perverts.
The Mercury understands the images Milgate offered for sale were unrelated to his offending against the two 12-year-olds.
Court documents said Milgate, operating under the name 'Little Lilly' and using an image of a young Asian girl as his profile picture, offered to sell multiple "CP links" for up to $20.
Milgate repeatedly gave buyers his Paypal details, including the email attached to his account, to facilitate payments.
Police were able to link the sales to Milgate through the account, which contained all his personal details including his mobile phone number and current address.
As part of his parole, Milgate will be subject to strict supervision by authorities.
