Ideas on what to do with a Port Kembla greenspace 'hub' are needed

BlueScope Steel donated the large parcel of land off Flagstaff Road to the Community Industry Group and Flagstaff Group last October.

Both groups are utilising the space for various projects, while it will also become a business incubator for entrepreneurs living with a disability.

But the large area has multiple possibilities, according to Community Industry Boss Nicky Sloan, who wants to hear from individuals and other groups keen to also move in to the campus.

"We have already had a number of suggestions for the area including bush gardens, permanent exercise stations, Tai Chi classes and a men's shed," she said.

"The masterplan project is about looking at that whole big green space and working with the community to find out what [they] would like to see in the green space."

Flagstaff CEO Roy Rogers hopes the campus would become a "thriving hub of activity".

"This is a rare opportunity to have direct input into the future use of a special community space which will welcome people of all abilities," Mr Rogers said.

"Including outdoor and indoor initiatives that create the opportunity for engagement with community members, particularly those from the surrounding suburbs of Cringila, Warrawong and Port Kembla."

Community members are encouraged to have their say at one of two community feedback sessions on Monday, August 26.

"It's really generous of BlueScope to open this up for the community, but best way for us to plan for the future is to really hear the voices of the community," Ms Sloan said.

Feedback sessions will run on site from 1pm to 3pm and again at 6pm to 7:30pm, 39-45 Flagstaff Road (off Five Islands Road) in Port Kembla.

They will provide tea, coffee, cake and a lucky door prize.
