Flooding between Audley Road and Sir Bertram Stevens Drive has closed the road in both directions.
Motorists are advised to use Sir Bertram Stevens Drive and Dr Markell Avenue to join the Princes Hwy.
Transport for NSW and National Parks and Wildlife are attending the scene.
The Bureau of Meteorology reports rainfall as high as 75mm in some parts of the northern Illawarra overnight.
With Darkes Forest, Rixons Pass and Bellambi all recording more than 50mm.
There has also been reports of flooding on Springhill Road near the Keira Street intersection in Wollongong on Friday morning.
And dogs have been reported on the road and causing delays on the Princes Hwy at Dapto near the Fowlers Road off-ramp.
