Coming up against the seventh-placed Newtown Jets, the Dragons were sloppy for large portions of the match, making a number of errors throughout the first half.

Newtown made the most of their opportunities, jumping out to a 22-6 lead after 47 minutes.

St George Illawarra eventually clicked into gear, with two tries in the final 10 minutes cutting the scores to 22-20, however the Jets held on to progress to next week's grand final.

Dragons winger Tristan Sailor said it was a disappointing way to bow out.

"They were just too good in the end, so very disappointing, but that's footy," Sailor said.

"It was very physical, finals footy, tempers flare, I think there was some good competitiveness out there, but in the end they were just a bit more physical than us."
