Harley and Johns Seafood is tapping into a new trend in retail this Christmas by giving its customers a chance to pick up their seafood on Monday and Tuesday and pay for it later.
The two days leading up to Christmas are traditionally the busiest time of the year at the Fairy Meadow business and Grant Logue wants to make it easier for his customers.
Especially on Christmas Eve when he is expecting a queue before Harley and Johns Seafood opens at 6am and stays open until 3pm. Musical entertainment is planned for those standing in line.
Mr Logue said all customers need to do to buy now and pay later is have a Zip Pay account set up before they arrive.
"We have 27,000 oysters coming in and about four or five tonne of prawns. We are going to have plenty of stock so we won't run out," he said.
"We just thought this was something that would help our customers.
"A lot of retail is going down that path and we thought at this time of year everyone is stretched. And this is one little thing we can offer to help people out.
"I have been looking at it for a while. I was going to try and organise it for last year but just got too busy. I know a few other business people who use it on their website and thought it might also be a good opportunity for us and our customers. I like to be on the front foot".
Mr Logue said there is a minimum spend of $100 and a $5 transaction fee will apply.
He said in the store it takes the same amount of time as a normal transaction.
He expects customers will pay their purchase off over one or two months.
"At Christmas time people are making many large purchases. It wouldn't be worth doing this for a $20 transaction. At Christmas many of our customers are making a $100 to $150 purchase on seafood. And we thought this would help those buying for the whole family".
Mr Logue said Christmas Eve is always the busiest time of the year for Harley and Johns Seafood in Fairy Meadow and he is expecting a new record to be set in the next two days.
"Christmas is one time when people don't hold back," he said.
"They are happy to spend money on good seafood for their family and friends".
Harley and Johns Seafood will also be open Boxing Day from 9am to 2pm and is expected to be busy into the New Year.
And the rush started early late last week when Harley and Johns provided 60 dozen oysters in one hour for a large Christmas event.
