Tynan Motors group director Madeline Tynan said more than $35,000 was raised for the university's work as result of the annual fundraising event in 2019.
Attending a luncheon at the main campus on Tuesday she revealed plans to raise even more in 2020.
"I was able to announce today that our fundraising dinner is going to be at the Prime Minister's residence at Kirribilli House in June. We are doing a cocktail part there on June 12".
UOW deputy vice-chancellor of health and communities Professor Alison Jones described Mrs Tynan's leadership with the challenge as "absolutely extraordinary".
"We are really grateful as we explore research at a molecular level to have the community behind us. One of the big challenges we face as a population is bugs becoming resistent to antibiotics. This money will help us in the fight against super bugs. It gives us an opportunity to find new ways of using antibiotics and create new antibiotics".
Prof Jones said the funding coincides with completion of the $80 million Molecular Horizons building. "This will help people realise how deeply connected that investment is on working on things in the real world that matter to real people".
"The scientists have been in there for a month now".
Mrs Tynan said it was great to have the annual walk in memory of her late father who was a philanthropic businessman who made a point of giving back to the community.
He quest in founding the event has been to further improve the health of local communities in Mr Tynan's memory.
Mrs Tynan said more people wanted to get involved each year.
She said there was a limit of 200 in the Royal National Park but by extending the distance people can participate in other sections on the day.
Mrs Tynan said the annual walk not only raised money for medical research but awareness as well.
Wollongong people really know how to support their community.
Mrs Tynan said they hadn't lost a sponsor since it started five years ago and keep securing new ones.
"The Lagoon Seafood Restaurant has come on board this year," she said.
The fifth annual Michael Tynan Memorial Challenge walk through the Royal National Park sill take place on the last Saturday in October.
"We had discussions today about whether to increase the length of the walk to go further south or further north".
There is a limit of 200 people allowed to take part in the walk through the Royal National Park.
But extending it will allow more participants to choose different sections and increase the fundraising.
