The Shellharbour talent played more than 20 games in a breakout A-League season as Sydney FC went on to clinch the championship double. He is now getting his shot at higher honours, representing the Olyroos in a friendly match against the sky blues on Thursday night at Jubilee Stadium.
After that game, King's busy schedule ramps up even more. He will board a plane with his Sydney FC teammates to Qatar for their upcoming AFC Champions League campaign.
The reigning premiers will then start preparing for the next A-League season, starting December 27.
"It will be very difficult playing against some of the best opposition in Asia. We're going over there to win, of course, so our goals are set pretty high. But coming up after that will be a good preparation for the A-League," King, 20, said.
"We're obviously not fully fit at the moment, but we're getting there. By the time we get back, we'll be fit and ready to go."
For now, King is focused on making an impression for the Olyroos on Thursday night. He will be joined in defence by fellow Illawarra talent, Western Sydney Wanderers player Tate Russell.
King said he was proud to get the chance to pull on the green and gold jersey.
"I've done it a couple of times with Joeys and Young Socceroos, but the Olyroos is different," he said.
"I've been trying to get into this squad for a while so to get into this camp, it's pretty special. It's a dream come true."
